HYPOTHYROIDISM

🔅DEFINATION :

it is due to hyposecretion of T3 and T4 hormone and it is characterized by (deceased basal metabolic rate of body


🔅 CAUSES


  • Tumor of thyroid gland

  • Deficiency of TSH

  • Iodine

  • Hashi moto's disease

  • Graves disease


🔅 CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS

  • Anorexia

  • Fatigue

  • Protrusion of tongue

  • Puffiness of face

  • Dry skin

  • Peri orbital of edema


🔅 DIAGNOSIS EVALUATION

  • History collection

  • Physical examination

  • Thyroid function test

  • Thyroid scan - x - ray ,CT - scan ,MRI


🔅 MANAGEMENT

1.Medical management

  • Levothyroxine – main treatment to replace thyroid hormone.

  • Regular thyroid function tests to adjust dose.

  • Balanced diet and adequate iodine intake.


2. Surgical Management 🏥

  • Surgery is rarely required in hypothyroidism.

  • If hypothyroidism is caused by large goiter or thyroid tumor, Thyroidectomy may be done.


🔅 HEALTH EDUCATION


  • Take medicine regularly such as Levothyroxine as prescribed. 💊

  • Do not stop medicine suddenly without doctor advice.

  • Regular thyroid check-up and blood tests are necessary. 🧪

  • Eat balanced diet with adequate iodine. 🥗

  • Avoid cold exposure and keep body warm.

  • Maintain proper body weight and do light exercise. 🚶

  • Report symptoms like excessive weakness, swelling, or slow heartbeat to the doctor.
