Subject: Anatomy & Physiology

Level: 1st Year B.Sc. Nursing

Unit: Basic Structural Organization of Human Body

📌 Learning Objectives (શીખવાના ઉદ્દેશ્યો)

After studying this topic, student able to:

  • Define tissue

  • Understand types of tissues

  • Describe characteristics of tissues

  • Classify tissues properly

  • Identify location of tissues in human body

  • Understand importance in nursing practice

1️⃣ Definition of Tissue (તંતુની વ્યાખ્યા)

Tissue Definition

Tissue is a group of similar cells working together to perform specific function.

Example:

  • Muscle tissue → helps in movement

  • Nervous tissue → helps in control & coordination

🧠 Mnemonic:Tissue = Team of similar cells

2️⃣ Characteristics of Tissue (Tissue

Main characteristics:

  • Similar type of cells

  • Perform specific function

  • Cells structurally similar

  • Found in all organs

  • Essential for body function

3️⃣ Classification of Tissues (Tissue

Human body માં 4 main types of tissues હોય છે:

Tissue Type

Main Function

Epithelial tissue

Protection & covering

Connective tissue

Support & binding

Muscular tissue

Movement

Nervous tissue

Control & coordination

🧠 Mnemonic:ECMNE → EpithelialC → ConnectiveM → MuscularN → Nervous

Easy sentence:Every Child Must Nurse

4️⃣ Epithelial Tissue (એપિથેલિયલ ટિશ્યુ)

Definition

Forms covering of body surfaces and lining of internal organs.

Characteristics:

  • Cells tightly packed

  • Very little intercellular space

  • No blood vessels

  • Found in skin and lining

Functions:

  • Protection

  • Absorption

  • Secretion

  • Filtration

Types of Epithelial Tissue:

5️⃣ Connective Tissue (કનેક્ટિવ ટિશ્યુ)

Definition

Connects, supports and binds different tissues.

Characteristics:

  • Cells loosely arranged

  • Matrix present

  • Blood supply present

Functions:

  • Support

  • Protection

  • Transport

  • Storage

6️⃣ Muscular Tissue (મસલ ટિશ્યુ)

Definition

Responsible for body movement.

Characteristics:

  • Contractile cells

  • Helps in movement

  • Elastic

Types of Muscular Tissue:

Type

Skeletal muscle

Attached to bones

Voluntary movement

Smooth muscle

Intestine, stomach

Involuntary movement

Cardiac muscle

Heart

🧠 Mnemonic: SSC Skeletal-Smooth-Cardiac

Easy sentence: Strong Smooth Cardiac

7️⃣ Nervous Tissue (નર્વસ ટિશ્યુ)

Definition

Controls and coordinates body activities.

Characteristics:

  • Conduct nerve impulses

  • Excitable cells

  • Found in brain & spinal cord

Components:

Cell

Function

Neuron

Neuroglia

Support neuron

Location:

  • Brain

  • Spinal cord

  • Nerves

🧠 Mnemonic:NN-Neuron-Neuroglia

8️⃣ Location of Tissues in Human Body

Tissue

Location

Epithelial

Skin, lining of organs

Connective

Bone, blood, cartilage

Muscular

Muscles, heart

Nervous

Brain, spinal cord

9️⃣ Importance of Tissue in Nursing

Understanding tissues helps in:

  • Understanding disease process

  • Wound healing knowledge

  • Understanding cancer (abnormal tissue growth)

  • Understanding muscle disorders

  • Understanding nerve damage

  • Patient assessment

Example: Burn injury → epithelial tissue damage
